Studio M Hotel review

Zhuang Jia Wen

Nestled in the lively Robertson Quay area along the Singapore River, Studio M exudes chic, loft-style accommodations at a competitive rate.

I was drawn to its central location near Clarke Quay, and its tech-focused amenities for travelers. The hotel aims to provide functional comfort blended with contemporary design. But did it deliver?

Table of Contents

Pros

  • Superb Location: Robertson Quay is an ideal home base to explore Singapore, with its bustling cafes, restaurants and bars. I could easily walk to attractions like Boat Quay, Marina Bay, and Orchard Road. The Fort Canning MRT is also nearby.
  • Cool Contemporary Design: The lobby and rooms have an urban chic vibe, with polished concrete pillars, edgy light fixtures and monochromatic color schemes. Modish touches like the vinyl record players in the rooms add flair.
  • Tech Perks: Ask for the Handy smartphone that gives unlimited mobile data and international calls. You can also use the PressReader app for access to 3,000+ newspapers/magazines for free during your stay.
  • Exceptional Service: The welcoming staff were ultra-responsive to requests and offered recommendations that perfectly matched my interests in arts and culture.

Cons

  • Compact Rooms: The hotel maximizes use of space, so rooms run on the smaller side. The Queen rooms fit the bill for a solo traveler like me, but I’d suggest upgrading if traveling with a companion.
  • Minimal Dining Options: There’s no full-service restaurant onsite besides the lobby cafe for breakfast. Many scenic dining and drinking choices are steps away along the riverfront though.

Conclusion

Studio M Hotel exceeded my expectations with its central location in Robertson Quay, creative design, tech amenities and genuinely welcoming service.

The modern rooms are intelligently designed but compact. With rates on par with other boutique hotels in Singapore, Studio M is a savvy choice for style-minded travelers who value convenience. I’d happily stay here again for future trips to this dynamic city.
