HipsterCity Hostel review

Zhuang Jia Wen

During my recent backpacking trip around Southeast Asia, I spent a few nights at HipsterCity Hostel in Singapore’s hip Kampong Glam neighborhood. Here’s an overview of my experience at this funky, social hostel.

Introduction

As a budget traveler, I was looking for an affordable but modern hostel in central Singapore with opportunities to meet fellow travelers. With its cool design, fun vibe and low rates, HipsterCity Hostel seemed promising.

Pros

  • Trendy Decor: The graffiti art, colorful murals and hipster touches gave the hostel a youthful, playful aesthetic that I loved. Chic bar/lounge and outdoor cinema area too.
  • Social Atmosphere: The hostel organized nightly activities like group dinners, walking tours and movie nights. It was easy to meet fellow travelers from around the world.
  • Helpful Staff: The hostel employees were incredibly friendly and helped book tours, suggest things to do, and recommend local hidden gems.
  • Affordable: For Singapore, you won’t find many better rates so close to major sights.

Cons

  • Noisy: Given the social vibe, noise did carry between rooms. Earplugs are recommended for light sleepers.
  • Shared Bathrooms: As expected for a hostel, the bathrooms were communal. A minor drawback but kept very clean.

Conclusion

For backpackers wanting a social, stylish base in Singapore, HipsterCity Hostel is a top choice. Beyond just affordability, the trendy atmosphere, activities and helpful staff made for an amazing hostel experience. Travelers looking to meet people and have fun on a budget will love it.
