During my recent solo trip to Singapore, I stayed at Hotel 81 Balestier, located in the Novena area. Here’s an overview of my experience at this budget-friendly accommodation.
Introduction
As a budget-conscious traveler, Hotel 81 Balestier appealed to me for its affordable rates and proximity to the Novena MRT station. Given its lower nightly prices, I wasn’t expecting luxury but hoped for comfortable basics.
Pros
- Affordable Rates: In expensive Singapore, these rates are very reasonable.
- Convenient Location: Right next to Novena MRT station makes getting around Singapore by public transit super easy.
- Clean and Tidy: My room was small and sparse but well-kept with daily housekeeping. Bed linens, bathroom and floors were clean.
- Simplified Stay: For budget travelers focused on location over amenities, Hotel 81 Balestier provides just the key essentials you need.
Cons
- Very Small Rooms: The compact rooms are really best suited to solo travelers. Couples or friends should consider booking two rooms.
- Sparse Amenities: Beyond basics like bed, bathroom and TV, not much extra in rooms or hotel. Don’t expect a restaurant, gym, pool etc.
- Noise: Located right next to the MRT means some train noise. Light sleepers should bring ear plugs.
Conclusion
For budget-focused travelers who prioritize price and convenience in Singapore, Hotel 81 Balestier is a solid pick. While the no-frills rooms are tiny and basic, rates are affordable. The location right beside Novena MRT makes getting around efficient. Overall a decent option for value-seeking tourists.
